Weekly Review/Plan

I didn’t get in quite the amount of exercise as I had planned, due to my ankle acting up.  Still did 2.5 hours all together, so pretty happy with that.

Eating was decent, sleep was lacking and stress was high.  I am tremendously busy with work and school and internships, but am still doing my exercising and, for the most part, keeping other healthy habits.

Goals for this week:

  • 8 hours sleep each day
  • Exercise Tues, Wed, Thurs and Sun and run the Tipp Hill 4 miler on Saturday and finish before the cut-off (should be fine, but very hilly course) (following Hal Higdon 15K novice plan week 3)
  • Finish reading book 168 Hours (awesome so far)
  • Get project plan done by Wednesday and cataloging paper due by Sunday
  • Smile and laugh more:-)

3 Things Thursday

  1. I am overwhelmed and behind.  On most everything.  This post by Kerri explains it perfectly.
  2. My foot hasn’t been doing well this week.  Ever since my ankle sprain my foot has been what really hurts.  Apparently it’s because my gait changes, so I feel it in my arch.  I only made it 1/2 a mile today and even then barely kept from crying in pain.  I really need this to be better by next Saturday, when I have my 4 mile race…
  3. I started a new internship this week at the Erie Canal Museum.  Loving it!  It is excited to see that I really have learned over the past 1.5+ years in grad school and can bring relevant, useful information to projects out in the field.

A Package from Korea

Journal J(Source)

My new calendar arrived today!  Shipped all the way from Korea (I bought it on eBay) and I am loving it already!!!  I read about the Journal J on The SHU Box (an awesome blog!) and was really impressed by the room available each week to write my to-do lists right next to the calendar.  It is all about being a journal for your journey of life.  An awesome message in my opinion.  I also love the little smiley face bookmarks:-)  Mine is the brown/teal shown in the picture.

Yesterday I walked up a great big hill.  I put the treadmill on 10-15% incline, then slowly walked up it (I was worried I’d fall off if I jogged).  The last couple minutes I decreased the incline and sprinted (6mph) to try to teach my legs to go all out at the end.  I had begun the night on the stairmaster, but after 5 minutes I felt like my legs were going to fall off.  I made it to 7 minutes and will work on increasing that weekly.

Tonight I am going to do a 3 mile WATP DVD and some strength work (maybe a resistance band video).  Hope everyones week is going well!

The 5 “P”s

My husbands uncle always mentions the importance of the 5 “P”s: Prior Planning Prevents Piss-Poor Performance.  I have been thinking about this in relation to my blog.  What am I trying to do here?

I started this because of how much I have enjoyed the healthy living, lifecasting and running blogs.  I have a blog that focuses on genealogy, libraries and cultural history.  Obviously, that wasn’t very expandable into this new set of blogs I began reading.  As such, I created “Amanda in Balance”, to focus on finding balance in my life.  I am going to start focusing better on the following topics:

Health

  • Exercise
  • Weight-loss
  • Cooking/Nutrition

Wealth (Material, due to other categories)

  • Career
  • School
  • Trying to be debt-free (looooong way off.  Thanks student loans…)

Spirit

  • Family and Friends
  • Hobbies (Travel, Reading, Genealogy<–other blog)
  • Organization (life is so much better when I’m not stressed over messiness and confusion in my apartment/car/life)

So these are the things I will be focusing on here; though mainly it will be the health aspect.  However, I always enjoy hearing about other parts of peoples lives and I hope you will here, too.  Thanks for coming along:-)

Weekly Exercise Plan:

Mon: 30 Minute Stair Climber

Tue: 3 Mile Run + Strength

Wed: Yoga Video

Thurs: 2 Mile Run + Strength

Fri: Off

Sat: 3.5 Mile Run

Sun: 30 Minute Elliptical or Bike

WeightWatchers?

I am contemplating joining WeightWatchers again.  I have done it in the past and gotten down to my lowest ever weight (and a size 8 clothing!).  I also see all these amazing bloggers who have lost weight on it.  And I like the new system, which would really encourage me to continue with eating healthy.

My big problem is portion control and I really like the in-person support that WW provides.  As much as I like SparkPeople, I am thinking I need to have that accountability of going to a meeting each week.

What are your thoughts on WW?  Is it worth the cost?  Has it worked for you?

Three Things Thursday

  1. Keep Running13.1 because I'm Only Half CrazyLook at my amazing bumper stickers (Images taken from their respective blogs & linked to them)!  I’ve hung them up on my motivation board, with my 5K number, the V-Day card from Zoë, and other random happy stuff.  Thank you so much ladies!!!
  2. Still watching the Biggest Loser.  Cara’s voice is going to push me over the edge…  Combine that with her being an actress and not a trainer, and really she just needs to be a one-season wonder.  So loving the black team and how they keep kicking scale butt!  The red team is so arrogant, I really can’t cheer for them.
  3. Recently finished A Homemade Life(Aff.) by Molly Wizenberg.  Fantastic!  The story of her life, told in chapters about recipes.  Each recipe looks amazing and the story makes it hard to put the book down.  Highly recommended!
